Jayne & Rob
We began camping together in 1988. We had two small children, when we purchased our first camper. We bought a 1988 Scamper Pop-Up Trailer. We enjoyed several years of camping with friends and family, and then we decided to take to the high seas. Rob had always wanted a boat and we came across a camper dealership with a boat for sale, so we traded our camper for the boat and began our lives together on the water.
We boated for many years, keeping our boat in a Newburyport marina. We made many friends and enjoyed our boating life for a long time. There was nothing more wonderful than spending time with our children on the water and traveling to many places on our boat. But as life went on, the kids grew up and began their own lives as adults; they no longer wanted to spend their summers and weekends with their parents on a boat. So we decided to sell the boat and give up the sea travels for a while.
Being two people who don’t like to sit still too long, we started looking into another long time dream of Robs. Rob has always wanted a truck camper. Rob had camped with his family in a truck camper as a young boy, and has always wanted one of his own. We began researching on the internet for different types of campers and choose the Host McKinley because of the inside layout which has a couch instead of a dinette. In early 2007, we met Bill Penny of East End Campers at an RV show in Rhode Island, put a deposit on a left over 2006 Host McKinley he had on his lot, and the rest is history.
During our days of researching truck campers, Rob came across a website called RV.Net, and low and behold he started reading posts from a man named Mike Tassinari… Mike was arranging the first rally for a new group. The group has since come to be known as the North East Truck Camping Jamboree. We attended that first rally held in Vermont in May of 2007 and have been attending every rally since. We have made some wonderful friends in the group, and we look forward to many more years of camping with the group and meeting even more new friends… Every rally we attend brings the words from an old song to mind… “Make new friends, but keep the old; one is silver and the other gold.”
We are delighted for the opportunity to serve as Wagon Masters for the 2009 Spring Rally. We hope we can follow in the footsteps of our amazing past Wagon Masters and put together a fun rally. We hope you can join us in the Spring ….
