Season Two

Hello Everyone!

How does one go about re-capping such a successful season such as the one just finished with the North-East Truck Camping Jamboree group? Most troubling was the rising Gas and Diesel fuel prices that threatened and quite possibly shortened many Camping Trips amongst our members. In May 2008, gasoline topped $4.00 per gallon and diesel was fast approaching $5.00 per gallon. In spite of these hefty costs there is only one way to describe the 2008 season. ”Simply Marvelous” You came out in record numbers...

The third weekend of April saw a group of us head down to Virginia. to start the Jamboree Season by attending the Mid-Atlantic Rally hosted by Ron and Michelle Humphreys at the Tall Pines Harbor Campground .

That first night we had a feast fit for a Queen and King, with an18 pound Prime Rib roasting on a rotisserie, 6 pounds of fresh Haddock on another grill, many veggies appeared and not to be out done-Dave C. (Flyfisherman) making his famous Brownies for dessert. Ron and Michelle H. did a great job as there were numerous Seminars to attend... Thanks Ron for putting up with us.

The third weekend of May came quickly and the North-East Truck Camping Jamboree started its first of 3 planned events. Horseshoe Acres Campground in Andover Vermont was chosen, Anne and Joe Brown were the  Wagon Masters, and these are their thoughts.

What a great time we had in Andover, VT at the North-East Truck Camping Jamboree May 16-18.  We went from an empty safari field to a total of 31 truck campers with over 65 people, the farthest away from Indiana!

We had classes on propane compartment leaks, refrigerator maintenance, fly fishing, DeLorme mapping for route planning and seam caulking/maintenance. We played "Fishy" a form of Bingo, held a 50/50 raffle and raffled off a multitude of great door prizes, many of them donated by TC related manufacturers

The Friday night hot dog roast was a smashing success with only a dozen dogs left over! We had drink/snack gatherings, pot luck supper, and the traditional men cook the breakfast Sunday morning.

We had great weather with only one gully washer rain storm but that was when we were in the recreation hall having pot luck. Lots of old friends seen again and lots of new friends met. We're so glad we started truck camping.

The third weekend of September brought the group to Yogi Bears Jellystone Park in North Hudson NY. Dick and Elizabeth were our Wagon Masters. Dick and Elizabeth have this to say.

As 1st time wagon masters we had a blast. The rallies are getting bigger and better. With so many campers one would think that it would be a lot of work. Not so with our group as everyone pitches in.

Our get together in North Hudson NY featured our host Gina who just about gave our group the key to the campsite. I'm sure they would love to see us again. With a total of 41 campers all seemed to enjoy the great weather and the company. Many thanks to everyone who put on seminars, helped in any way.

Our usual hot dog roast got a different twist with the use of the campgrounds giant grill, and the pot luck just keeps getting better if that’s possible.

There was some controversy over whether the 50/50 was rigged as Mike T handed over half the $$$ to his mother.

Looking forward to a banner year in "09"

The last Jamboree of the Season was held in Salem MA. at the Winter Island Campground on the third weekend of October. Cathie& Mike Tassinari were the Wagon Masters, and these were their thoughts...

Alex from PA. came in a Pop-Up to represent that group of T/Cs, a 5ver came all the way from Long Island NY. along with the rest of the group to make this a very successful Rally.

Weather can be dicey at this time of year so no Campground Seminars were scheduled. You could take the commuter boat into Boston for the day or head into Salem and explore the many Haunted Happenings this Town has to offer..

Saturday a group went off the Wine Tasting Event a few Towns over and came back with some Wines purchased from the Winery.

The Saturday Night Pot Luck Supper went off very well with many dishes to sample from. Mike and Cathie brought Pizza’s from a local Vendor that they know and every last slice was consumed…

We had a 50/50 raffle and Alex from PA. went home with $105.00

A total of 16 Rigs showed up and many asked to come back to Salem MA. next year.

Mike Tassinari...

I would like to give special thanks to Anne & Joe Brown, also Dick & Elizabeth Barlow for making the 2008 Jamboree's so memorable ...Mikeeeeeee
